Dental Implants
Dental implants are one of the best ways to replace missing teeth lost due to trauma, decay or periodontal(gum disease). Dental implants resemble natural teeth very closely and help in restoring optimum chewing capacity & esthetics thereby re storing complete function.
We have treated thousands of patients with dental implants. Here, have a look!
Treatment options with Dental Implants
Single tooth replacements
When a tooth is lost, the simplest way of replacing it is by replacing its basic structure which are the tooth root and tooth crown. The dental implant acts as an artificial root and allows for a crown to be seated on it so that the aesthetics and function of the lost tooth are restored.
Implant supported fixed teeth
When multiple teeth adjacent to each other are removed or already missing, two or more implants can be connected to one another to form an implant supported bridge which restores the lost group of teeth.
Implant supported overdentures
If all the teeth in both the jaws are missing, one can consider wearing dentures to restore all the teeth. However, we use implants as supports under these dentures to increase their stability, ensure they don’t move while speaking and swallowing and improve the ability to chew.
Let’s go through some common queries about dental implants!
When do I need a dental implant?
You need a dental implant if you have the following problems :
One or More missing teeth lost due to gum disease, decay or trauma
Loosely Fitting dentures
Problems with bridges
Inability to chew food.
Why are implants important? When should I get a dental implant?
Implants improve esthetics, help in biting & chewing, improve speech & help restore facial form. But that’s not it! They also help protect the surrounding teeth by preventing their movement. They also share the load of chewing which increases after you lose teeth. After a tooth is lost, the bone underneath starts to shrink & teeth start to move.
In order to avoid long term problems it is advisable to see us when you’re planning to remove a bad tooth or you have a missing tooth which is not replaced. So if you’re missing one or multiple teeth, it is the right time to visit us. After clinical assessment and treatment planning using our in-house 3D Scanning we can determine what type of implant treatment is best for you.
Are dental implants safe? Am I a candidate for dental implants if I have any underlying medical condition?
Implants are made from highly biocompatible titanium or zirconium alloys .They are non-toxic, non-corrosive & are perfectly safe for usage within the oral cavity. All dental implants are safe in MRI scans , airport scanners & any other scanning procedures as they are non-magnetic in nature.
Underlying medical conditions if under control are not a contra-indication for dental implants. In our implant treatment protocols we consider all these conditions and ensure that you are medically fit to undergo the procedure.
Till what age can I choose dental implants as a treatment modality?
There is no upper age limit for undergoing an implant procedure. Once the jaw bone growth is complete as an adult you can undergo this procedure at any stage.
To replace my missing tooth, should I go for a bridge or a dental implant?
Tooth supported bridges involve reduction & shaving down of two or more adjacent teeth for support and are only indicated in limited clinical conditions. Dental implants offer a more conservative way to replace missing teeth where no adjacent tooth will be harmed and hence are a treatment of choice in most situations.
